Pre-Lim Storyline Double Page - Spread

Double Page Spread #1

The reason I chose this double-page spread is because it went hand in hand with the theme of my magazine which is the it-girl aesthetic but keeping it classy and neat. This spread is about the different styles of outfit trends that started their own sustainable fashion impact. The layout of this spread drew me in because I like the idea of writing only on one side rather than both. I'm not a big fan of the font chosen but I like the way it is organized.

Double Page Spread #2

The reason I chose this double age spread was because it was way more personalized to fit into the aesthetic they were trying to portray by splitting the two different fashion eras side by side. It had a significant amount of detail, and I really enjoyed the placement of the paragraphs that hugged the cutouts of the models. I just loved the way it was organized with the model cutouts, simplistic writing, and a hugged the cuto variety of pictures.

Double Page spread #3

I chose this spread because it was something new. Rather than having a basic story and picture this spread is in place in a unique format with the words of the masthead placed at a curve and the paragraphs hug the cutout of the model and fashion accessories. I really like this new format because it adds a bit of flavor to the simplistic writing and is definitely an element that I want to include in my magazine.

Out of all of these spreads, I genuinely feel that I want to incorporate all of their elements in my magazine spread. I enjoy the uniqueness of all of them and feel as though if I correctly used all of the components that make them all unique to their own style, I can create an entirely new design stemming from my inspiration from all of these spreads.

Pre-Lim Research Table of Contents

So when I began to research for my table of contents page spread, I didn't really know how to exemplify through a table of contents page the clean girl aesthetic that I'm trying to portray. I researched Pinterest's different inspirations for what I was going to create, and I started to debate whether I should try to create a table of contents page with a simplistic and cleaner format or try to jam a bunch of photos to really fill the page completely.

Table of contents page #1

The first inspiration I found on Pinterest was this table of contents page from Cosmopolitan, which was published in the late 2000's. This page represents more of the filled-up page and packed designs that contrast with the other inspirations. This page drew me in because I love how the use of color and varying font styles throughout the page and the use of cutouts placed scattered across the page gives more of a compact and filled-up fill, and in doing so, it takes away from the boring page color in the background.

Table of contents #2

The second inspiration I found on Pinterest was this table of contents page from a wedding magazine, which was published in December 2024. This page represents more of the clean girl and simple designs that contrast with the other inspirations. This page drew me in because I love how the use of the photos and their college style, as they are placed closely next to each and the varying font styles throughout the page, and in doing so, it takes away from the boring page color in the background.

Table of Contents #3

The final inspiration I found on Pinterest was this table of contents page from an art magazine, which was published in 2023. This page represents more of the simplistic and neutral designs that contrast with the other inspirations. This page drew me in because I love how the page numbers are the only pop of color in all of the fonts from that of the subheading and the masthead and varying font styles throughout the page and the use of cutouts placed scattered across the page gives more of a clean and simplistic feel, and in doing so, it takes away from the boring page color in the background.

PRE-LIM RESEARCH 2- OPENINGS AND COVERS

Pre-Lim Research 2 - Opening and Covers

The next step into my research is to find magazine covers that are good examples of the aesthetic that I am trying to convey which is the minimalistic clean girl aesthetic. The first cover that I have chosen is from VOUGE. There are young pretty girls on the covers ranging from ages 30-20 with clear skin and minimal makeup that basically looks like they are wearing no makeup and are all natural. The cover has more of a collage-style 3 by 3 for the cover which I found personally very appealing to see such a wide variety of pretty girls on the cover. This also gives the feeling that the  magazine is inclusive to all girls around the world, and helps spread the primary target audience. Their masthead is VOUGE in all capital letters which I also find inspiring from the skinny font letters that VOUGE uses. They use bright iridescent colors ranging from white to neutral beige to grey and the only flare of color we see in the cover is the bright red masthead that titles the magazine. The cover in my opinion is simple but allows the reader to see a wide range of girls.

The second cover that I found to be inspiring is the Elle Magazine cover. There is a skinny pretty tall young girl with pale clear skin, and she is wearing a long skin tight tank top with low rise baggy jeans. She looks clean and well-put together and her outfit is very minimalistic, as she only accessorizes with a black belt to add some contrast to the outfit in its entirety. The angle of the photo was taken a bit above eye level but allows the reader to see the girl in the cover from the top of her head until it cuts at her hips. The masthead is similar to that of VOUGE but the major difference that I see from the two examples is that ELLE's masthead has letters spread apart from one another differing from that of VOUGES. The feelings that I feel the second cover helps to convey is a very girly, clean, minimalistic, and intriguing. They also include taglines surrounding the girl which also reels the reader into read more than just the cover.

The final cover that I found inspiration is from a magazine from COSMETICS. The girl in the photo is a young vibrant woman with clear skin and she is positioned in a soft pose with her hands placed up against her face. The angle is below eye level which allows the reader to see her full face in the cover. Their masthead is in white less bold than the previous two examples and all of the letters are in lowercase. I think that this magazine completely conveys the cleanliness aspect of what I'm trying to display with my design. The cover overall is simple and doesn't include anything but the masthead and the title named "THE SKINCARE ISSUE." This allows for the readers that may suffer from acne or are just trying to find a good skincare routine to get reeled into reading the magazine because it targets that certain

I went on Pinterest and found some inspiration for my table of content spread/page and felt that these really emulated the overall clean girl aesthetic. They all include the table of contents of their magazine and they all include photos.

Preliminary Research 1 - GENRE

PRELIMINARY RESEARCH 1- GENRE

My name is Sophia Llano and today is the first day of my research starting my fashion and lifestyle magazine and I will be doing the magazine based off of a more recent trend that has been circulating around TikTok called "Clean Girl Aesthetic". Think "SLEEK, MINIMAL, EVERYDAY LUXURY!" Picture yourself back to those early 2000s "effortless chic" vibes, but modernized. Clean girl aesthetic is all about minimalism and prioritizing self-care in every aspect ranging from clear skin, natural make up, to slick-back bun, and clothing with basic neutral tones usually paired with a flare of color. Essentially, it's about looking and feeling your best without a lot of fuss. It's a vibe that's both sophisticated and approachable.

I have created a Pinterest board dedicated to my inspiration for my magazine which consists of photos like the one presented above which truly emulates the aesthetic that I am portray. The girls in the photo are wearing very pastel and neutral tone clothing, as they accessorize themselves with gold jewelry and wear some for of sneakers or sandals. I try to use videos from TikTok and Pinterest to see what tips girls give other girls to practice and prioritize self-care through simple everyday things such as washing your face at night, including skin care products, showering twice a day, and to practice healthy sleeping and eating habits. The whole aesthetic of my magazine is to help target a young teenage girl audience or even young adult women who want to prioritize their hygiene and self care routine.

I would love to get a photo like the one displayed above. I want to recreate this photo to possibly include this either in my table of contents or possibly in the main two pages. I will be having two of my friends to model for me and to convey the aesthetic of my magazine and since they are both blondes and they enjoy taking care of themselves, I think they will truly be able to bring to life the idea I'm trying to implement into my magazine. The research that I've also begun to do is researching what usually fashion and lifestyle magazines include. The research that I have begun to conduct has told me that popular beauty and lifestyle magazines usually include a range of what's in style this season, include clothing, accessories, and jewelry. They also include styling tips such as how to wear the latest trends, how to incorporate new pieces into your wardrobe and tips for staying healthy and looking your best.

week 9 post 2

After weeks of planning, designing, writing, and editing... my fashion magazine is finally finished! It feels kind of amazing to hold somet...
